Which parachute account? Is it worth it.

Hi. I have a graduate account with Barclays. Current monthly interest rate up to £1500 1.39%, over £1500 0%. Overdraft up to £2000. I want to reclaim the amount they charge each time they send a letter to tell me there is insufficient cleared funds for some direct debits.

Martin Lewis article said I should open up a parachute account before writing claim letter. Which account should I go for as the mentioned interest rate seems good to me? Is it worth it?

  • A parachute account is basically an account that would allow you to start afresh so to speak without the hassle of bank charges albeit you would still need to pay back any overdrawn balance on your original account. With regards to what account you should open, it may be worth posting on the current account board and you will get more advice on specifics.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
