Motorpoint imports?
Comments
-
I've just asked Motorpoint. They said:
Yes it is an import
It has 2 years manufacturers warranty
The car was manufacturered in May 2008, so by the time I get the car, I will only have just over a year left of warranty. (even though I'm getting an 09 plate)
Does this sound suspicious or is that quite normal?0 -

That is the way Motorpoint work, if you are happy with buying it under those terms, fine.
I wouldn't be.
Did you check if the specification is the same as a UK car?, many are not the same.
Even the paint colours are different on occasions to UK cars.0 -
Spec's are not always the same. The most common things left out on Renaults are Alarms and Locking wheel nuts.
It is possible depending on where the import is from that it might not of had the same corrosion treatments. I beleive that these are tailored to different climates but not 100%.
As other people have pointed out most likely you will need to notify your insurance company. Also it will be worth less when you come to part exchange it.
Warranty for uk renaults runs from the date of first registration - regardless of build date. I'm not sure how it works for Imported cars, Renault CS will be able to answer that tho.0 -
I was sourcing a car recently for a customer - she'd seen Motorpoints advertised prices, but wasn't aware (initailly) of the way the cars were 'imported', nor of the add on charges they make.
When I got involved, for her, it didn't take much effort to find a GENUINE car, UK dealer supplied, for a verrrrrrrry small amount of £$£$ more.
Well worth it, if only for the full warranty.

You would need to check with Motorpoint, some are pre-registered, some are not.
Another point of note, if the car has been pre-registered and anything serious happens to it i.e. stolen and not recovered, your insurance company will not treat it as a new car. This is important, particularly in the 1st 12 months as had it been 'new' the insurance company will replace it with a new car. If it had been pre-registered, they won't and you will get the trade value of it, not a new car.

n.b Although a lot of insurance companies get away with paying trade value as a settlement - they should and will pay retail price. They cannot expect you to source a replacement car for trade price so would not be fulfilling their obligation of indemnity if thats all they gave you!0 -
Just a word of note to those people talking about pre-registered cars. Motorpoint give the the V5 on the day of collection. It isn't like many pre-reg cars where you have to wait 6 months.
I would say that as long as the spec is right and the price is right then go for it. You can buy after market warrantys for very cheap and most let you pay monthly.
One thing I would say is what Renault are you after and what is the deal? I nearly bought a megane cc from motorpoint a few years back but when I looked further I found UK cars in many place for just as cheap. Renault really are one of the most discounted cars around.0 -

It's a CC I'm looking for too. The Renault garage did have it for £1k extra with full leather. I would have preferred to go for that one but they didn't have the colour I wanted! I want eclipse and the only place I found that had it was Motorpoint. It may sound silly, but I'm not prepared to pay so much for a car if I don't like the colour. I'd rather not get one at all and keep the one I have!
It's too late now anyway, the one and only eclipse has now been taken...0 -
I'm just back from motorpoint, and saw a nice 57 plate focus It was registered in Dec 07, and has low mileage.
Would this be an import?
Also, how does it work with imports with low mileage that have been UK registered? And would I have to register the warranty with Ford UK so that it would be valid if I claimed?0
