Fridge Freezer Broke?

My fridge broke down at the weekend, so had to throw food out
It may be working again though.
I have put in an ice-cube tray and it takes about 6-8 hours to freeze.
How long should it take to freeze, I thought the water would be frozen in 2-3 hours.
Can anyone give me advice.
