Cheap Transatlantic flights around Christmastime?

I'm a British Ex-pat now married to a Canadian and living in Winnipeg.

We'd like to get back to the UK to spend this Christmas with my parents so we want to book early, but the only carriers I can find flying between the East coast and the UK at that time of year are the big names like British Airways, Air Canada and Air France.

When I usually fly I use companies like Zoom or go through Canadian Affair (who use the Thomas Cook and My Travel air networks), but they tend to end or limit their services around October because they primarily operate for the tourist trade.

If anyone knows of a cheap airline operating from the east coast around this time (even east coast USA would be good, especially if you knew of a cheap way to fly to the airport in question from Winnipeg) please let me know.. :)

I'd also be interested if people knew of cheaper options at any other time of year, as if the Christmas trip turns out to be too pricey, we may aim for the first part of next year.

Thanks for your help! :)

Cheap+christmas only really happens if you fly on Christmas day, so you would get there for Boxing day lunch.

Thanks - I checked them out but like most of the tourist flights they stop flying in October.. :(

Air Canada is currently offering seats at around CDN$1,150 (about £575) per person after taxes & charges which would get us all the way from Winnipeg to Manchester (Via Toronto & London Heathrow). That's leaving a few days before Christmas and returning a couple of days after the New Year.

While this seems like a pretty good price, I'd be interested to see if anyone knows of one that can beat it.. :)
  • Continental now have scheduled flights New York to Bristol and Birmingham. American do Boston to Manchester I think. Just had a quick look at Zoom they have Christmas Toronto-UK flights coming up but they aren't that cheap.
Last year Iceland Air and Aer Lingus were both doing cheapish flights. Ba also had a sale on. But all these you had to fly by 14 or 15th December to get the cheap rates.
