scratches in pine furniture

Options
the headboard on my old pine bed has scratches from the cat's claws. Is there anything I can buy which will blend in and disguise them? Thanks.

    Most DIY shops stock fillers.

The last one i used was from Homebase. It looks like square wax crayons and came in a pack of two shades. You can mix the two together to match the shade. Then smooth it across. After its dry, buff to a shine. Was a little pricey. I used this on both a table and a cheval mirror and it did a really great job.

Maybe it can be done OS. Could it be possible to use actual wax crayons, shoe polish, cold tea, etc. Then buff to a shine after with beeswax. Worth a go.
    Does anyone else know?

Are you sure the scratches are from the cat? I think you're trying to hide something ;)

Try leaving a steam iron next to it for about half an hour with the steam directed onto it, wont work if its varnished though.

  • If they are not too deep you could sand down and refinish the whole headboard.

I heard somewhere that rubbing candle wax into scratches takes them out.

  • our cats have really gone at some of our new bedroom furniture. It is a lovely unfinished rustic look but now it looks a bit too rustic for my liking.

What would be the best way to deal with this type of furniture? Affected areas include the corner of a wardrobe, the front of a chest of drawers and the corner of a bedside cabinet. Im not sure rubbing the whole lot down is really an option as it woudl take for ever!
