SKY v VIRGIN

In an effort to motivate teenager to do well in his exams this year, have promised he can get Sky (or similar) in his room but am totally flumoxed when I make enquiries with them. I think he basically just wants to get the big premier football matches (single mum, clueless) However, I'm with Virgin for broadband, tv and phone just now and its quite cheap but when I made enquiries with Sky it seems astronomical in comparison, ie connection charges, monthly charges then extra charges for certain matches.... eh???
Basically, this is what I'm trying to get, as cheaply as possible:- I want to keep the main computer and TV in the "family" room. I only have a basic TV package (which costs nil with Virgin for about 20 channels) and we have broadband. I'd like to give him a TV in his bedroom with increased TV package to include premier football matches.
This, plus spaghetti juntion at the back of the computer, is a mess.
I'm just sooooooooo confused! Would I be better to get someone in and ask for advice? I'm aware I could have "mug" written on forehead though.

I know with Sky that an extra box costs about £10 a month, and the Sky Sports package is about £16 a month (plus there will be a one-off installation fee). I suspect Virgin will do a similar deal (and should be cheaper then having a whole new Sky subscription).
Another alternative is Setanta Sports available over freeview. All that is needed is a freeview box, standard TV aerial connection and a subscription at £11 a month. The box with a card is available from most electrical shops - e.g. argos. You can also get Setanta as part of the Virgin XL TV package, but that would cost £19.50 a month, though you do get a lot more channels as standard (and would still need to pay for an extra box if he wants to watch in his room).
Personally I'm not into football, so I recommend you ask around on whats better - Setanta vs Sky Sports.0 -
It can be quite confusing, I have found Virgin usually works out cheapest but it all depends on the package you go for.
If you're happy with virgin why not just get a second box for your sons room and then subscribe to Sky sports and Setanta. If you get the XL TV package you get Setanta free.
If you threaten to leave Virgin they will probably do you a deal as well - make sure to get through to the disconnections team when negotiating the new deal.
Unfortunately, whatever you go for, it will probably be a good bit more than what you're paying now.0
