Ending a Tenants Contract early?

We moved into a house with 12 month contract which included a 2 month break clause after 6 months, so would let us move out after 8 months

Since moving in I've lost my job and am struggling to pay rent, do you think it's possible that the contract could be ended after 6 months, is it something that could be negotiated with the landlord? are there any good excuses that could be used to do this?

any help much appreciated

  • try laying the truth on your landlord and appealing to their better nature - i have had to do this before, i wrote it all down in a very apologetic letter and offered to assist with getting a replacement tenant (e.g showing viewers round) and the LL was fine with it.

Are you absolutely sure that the break clause is worded so that you cannot give notice until after 6 months? It's not worded so that you can give notice to end not earlier than 6 months after the start of the agreement?

If you post the precise words here we can tell you what you think, if that would help.

This is always a good opening gambit.
    Good luck.

is there any template letters going around that I could use as a rough starting point?
