Can you claim back mortgae charges??

Around 2 years ago I took out a 5 year fixed rate mortgage with halifax. I have recently paid it off (3 years early) and because of this I was charged £1,075. The mortgage offer did state that if I paid off my mortgage early I would be charged 1% (£300 as my mortgage was for £30,000) for each year early it was paid off. On top of this £900 I was also charged a £175 admin fee! Surely this is an extortionate amount.

Does anyone know if this can be claimed back or if anyone else has tried claiming back similar charges??

it all depends on it being in the terms and conditions. sounds a bit odd to me. if you do complain do so through the FOS not court. mortgages usually have terms regarding court action which means you end up paying their costs even if you win.
