Abbey charges what to do?

Long story short(ish) I opened an account around October 2007 they offered me an overdraft which I took but despite saying I would get a Visa debit card(still have the form saing this) they sent me a cashcard so I rarely used account apart from to borrow £80 once which I put back in a week later and put odds and ends worth of cash in. i.e £10 here and there and a £300 cheque once that I removed cas a week or two later.

I moved around this time last year but forgot to change address details and even forgot I had account as I didnt use it enough plus im disabled and recently got forwarded debt collector letters mounting up from as far back as June last year as they removed my overdraft limit and I was overdrawn as they charged me for life insurance(that I didnt want but was pressurised into but cancelled next day) and found they had been taking about £30 out a month for 6 months making me like £120 overdrawn, sent me letters saying I owed them the cash and they are taking me to court etc.

Now the reason why I didnt change the address originally was I couldnt find the cashcard but they wouldnt order a replacement or change the address without it and a passport or driving license for proof of who I am.

I am disgusted at this and worried that my credit rating is affected but the branches wont deal with me and when I phone up they are rude and also demand current details to issue court proceedings against me!

  • Abbey are a nightmare.

Ok... this is what I think:

If you have all your correspondance with Abbey regarding your account, I'd photocopy them. The letters showing what they offered, and any demands. If since you moved, and don't have much from them, I'd ask for copies to be sent to your current address.

Then I'd check my statements and photocopy the page which showed the last time you used the account.

Then I would type a letter stating all your complaints (backed up by photocopies), state the fact that numerous times you have tried to rectify the sitiuation and met abrupt and rude people.
Also tell them how distressed all of this is making you, and since you are disabled, this is an additional stress you don't need.

Then at the end say that you are seeking legal advice on the matter.

I would include your current address at the top of the letter, that shows you have nothing to hide.

This is THEIR mistake and yet they continue to pass the buck.
Other people may have a much better approach to the matter, but this is what I'd do.

I'm in the middle of a complaint too, an error by them they want to pass onto me.
I've used M.S.E to sort out my debts,my savings, my insurance, my LIFE.
Back on track now so much love to Mr Lewis!:money:
