Last post was great advice as well....look- you've been through a really bad time (as I did- separation, 2 young kids involved) so you have had enough heartache without worrying about this! Deep breath- tell yourself they can't hurt you anymore and don't take any cr*p from them!!!

I will add it was the best thing I ever did...bye bye to 42 grand (12 of which was to to the revenue...I still feel bad about that:rotfl:)

  • Thanks for all the repiles and helpful advice

Had the hearing today, I am now officially bankrupt! The experience wasn't bad at all, didn't have to see the judge, just a quick chat on the phone to the OR to let me know they will be contacting me soon for the dreaded interview..

On the down side, my basic bank account was frozen, had to plead with them to let me take out my benefits that are being paid in tomorrow, luckily they agreed and I have arranged to recieve giro's for a couple of weeks until new account set up with the co-op.

As you are all so helpful, another question if you don't mind..

Some of my debt was because of online gambling, a very bad addiction I found myself sucked into, and stupidly carried on when my husband left although I had lost my job and could no longer afford it.
I hit rock bottom a few weeks ago and was seriously considering suicide, when i had the foresight to contact an online gambling counselling service, the lovely lady at the other end saved me and made me realise I had to face up to what i was doing. I immediately cancelled all accounts and haven't gambled since and would never even buy a lottery ticket for as long as I live.

My question is, I know the OR will take a dim view of this and I accept that what I did was wrong, I just wondered what action they are likely to take?
About £5000 of my £27000 debt was due to gambling...

  • Hi dreamcatcher and a big Well Done for getting through today :D

Try not to worry *too* much about the gambling debt - what is done is done and you can't change the past. My advice would just be 100% honest with the OR about it - he will probably question you quite a lot on it - just tell him everything you can..... if you can't remember then just say so. My H had a LOT of gambling debt, a hell of a lot more than yours :o and he was questioned about it in very thorough detail by the OR. The worst the OR can do is give you a BRU for it...... my H got 3 years (I got 4 for different "offenses" but not bitter that I got longer than him, oh no not at all........ ).

  • Hi Scarlett, thanks for the reply

I'm not bother about getting a BRU, I never want credit again for as long as I live! If that's the worse they can do then fine, I can take that!

Just have to deal with the grilling, then move on... Luckily I'm having a phone interview, wouldn't want a face to face grilling lol

Maybe I should just sit back and relax a little now, had two phone calls today from people chasing debt, it felt good giving them my BR number - resisted the urge to tell them to p off lol

Don't want to worry you....... but H and I had phone interviews and were then called in for a 2nd, face to face, interview several months later. But like I said, H's gambling debt was huge......... more than your whole debt :o

  • Well if it happens it happens, if it does hopefully by then I will be hardened to the whole process and it will be water off a ducks back..

I think once the first interview is out of the way I will know what to expect, so if there are any more I will be prepared..

  • No one in a sound financial position takes a payday, so at least he will understand you were left with no option.
  • I think you have to be hard to it, as you said, what's done is done. I can't change how I lived my life in the past but I can change how I will live it in the future.

Here's to the first day of the rest of my life...
