Magnaclean/boiler help please

W've recently had our Baxi boiler serviced by British Gas and the engineer advised us to get a Mangnaclean.
The quote is £250 which seems a bit extreme to me?
Is it any good and is it worth the money?
Are they easy to fit if we bought one?

Good afternoon: The OH uses a Boiler Buddy as standard for all his boiler installations and prefers it to a Magnaclean....worth fitting but get it done by an independent RGI instead for less dosh. Whether you could fit one depends on your plumbing skills. See the installation manuals for both to see what is involved.

Our Magnaclean was fitted today, by BG, let's hope it doesn't leak now.;)

This is like the old VHS / beta debate of two decades ago.
I don't know anyone who fits boiler buddies, I have no idea where to buy one, I have fitted maybe 100 Magnacleans.
I predict boiler buddies will be dead in the water within 12 months.0 -

EH..you need to get out a bit more...try PTS, HPS, City Plumbing, independents, online, the Energysmart scheme...lots of comments on diynot (esp. the Combustion Chamber but haven't seen you on there) about the merits of both. The BB is transparent....the customer can see the crud in the system if the flush has been carp (or not done at all)...perhaps that explains the appeal of the Magnaclean:D
