Plumbing advice please!

Hi,

We need to replace lead pipe from the mains into the house. All the lead in the house has already been replaced with polypipe.

I have just had a quote for £429.75 plus VAT which seems an awful lot. The quote is to run the new pipe from the mains into the house (trence is already dug out) Line with sand, tap of original lead stop !!!! and bury under the floor. Put a new join to the lead pipe that feeds our neighbours and t it off into our property.

Is this easy to do ourselves? And what would we need to attach polypipe to lead and also cap of the existing lead stop !!!!?

I would really appreciate any help

Thanks
Lisa

Good afternoon: How long is a piece of string (or water main in this case;))? Length of run will have impact on cost of materials as well as labour. If you fancy DIYing have gander here.

    Hi,

Sorry never thought of mentioning the length of pipe required  Its approximately 25m so quite a lot.

The quote includes for laying a sand lining but not flling the hole back in.

I think I might get a couple more quotes just to check I'm not getting ripped off!

    Thanks for your advice!

I'm with Anglian Water and they said the only bit they do is changing the lead from the boundary of my property to the mains in the street. Anything on my property they were not interested in.

I looked for grants too because I was told you used to be able to get them if you we're replacing lead in a house, but I couldn't find any!

Why does everything cost so much :(

Seven trents charges for a new connection

    http://http://www.stwater.co.uk/upload/pdf/Ref_05_with_band_proof_3.pdf

So application is £177 then work in foot path is £495 total Total £672.

Just like the OP I had a shared (with 4 properties Lead Pipe), Dug down in my back garden and capped this off with a lead lock fitting (cost me £10) where it became my personal pipe.

Then I did as I said above and ST connected it to the mains for FREE I paid them nothing if I had not had a lead pipe they would have charged me so it was FREE.
  • Severn Trent told me we had a leak on our property-And i said thanks for telling me-They said "are you not going to fix it" i said No its only a small leak and we are not on a water meter.
They then arranged to fix it FREE Sorted.

So do you accept now that my connection was FREE as I accept that ST fixing your leak was FREE.
