First ever parking ticket.

Well it had to happen sooner or later. I parked on a grass verge outside my dads house. It was snowing heavily and I didnt want to risk getting the kids out straight onto the road. Its a main road with lots of buses etc. There is a sign that says I can park on the road for up to 2 hours and no return within 2 hours. I was parked for 15/20 mins. Does anyone know of any appeal route or should I just pay up?
Thanks for any attention any one gives this

Is this a council ticket, a FPN from the police or a private ticket?
If the former, read the stickies and then post up ALL of the ticket, together with photos of signs and road markings.
If an FPN, this is usually one to pay.
If private, which I suspect it's not, read the stickies, and then file it in a drawer and ignore.0 -
Is it council or Police ticket? Did you park on the road or on the verge?
Or to save a load of hassle go here and post pictures and scan the ticket in....

Just got onto the net and reading the pepipoo site now. So will post on there. Thanks for the help.
I was parked on the grass verge. The road does have yellow lines in places and marked parking bays, but as the snow was covering them I was unsure where. There were cars parked up and down on the road.
The really annoying/frustrating thing is that there is a school further down the road on the opposite side. Parents regularly park all over whiolst picking up there kids. This weekend there has been a jag parked on the road on double yellows adjacent to where I was parked on the verge. Been there three days now, not one ticket in sight!
Thats my rant over for the day!!0
