Question: Could the tickets be used if you just got off at London Gatwick? As far as I can remember there is no ticket barrier.

i supose getting off ok, though i think there are separate barriers/entrance from airport towards the rail staion? havent been for a while, so couldnt say for sure.

There are no ticket barriers at Gatwick but staff do occasionally check tickets of passengers getting off there, and if you're caught you'll be treated as travelling without a valid ticket and will have to pay the full single fare.

You can buy the same tickets for travel in both directions between Victoria and Gatwick, so there's no need to travel short.

Brighton to Gatwick with a London ticket would be travelling short - so officially no go.
