Huge Electricity Bill

I wonder if anyone can help. I live on my own in a 3 bed semi. I am pretty economical with energy and even though it has been a very cold winter my gas usage has been below the estimated usage even though my heating is gas. I am careful not to have appliances on when not necessary and I dont have a tumble dryer or any other energy guzzling appliances (or so I believe).
I took a meter reading for my electricity in mid September and it was 26135. Today the reading is 29548. That seems like a whole lot of electricity to have been consumed by just one person. According to my energy company my usage during the same quarter last year was 2.35 units per day - and there was 2 of us living in the house at the time.
Any views on whether the usage seems reasonable would be appreciated. is there any reason why it might be so high? Also, what recourse have I got with the energy company? Do energy meters ever go wrong and give incorrect readings????
Many thanks

Yours consumption from mid Sept is about 22 units a day, a bit high, but not outlandish.
Your consumption of 2.35 units is very, very, very low.
I would suggest that these readings (esp the low one) may have been "skewed " by estimated meter readings.0 -
Having done some research 2.35 units a days does seem very low. I think the moral of the story is that we should all be taking our own meter readings! I have learnt my lesson!0
