Tabs - virus?

I hesitate to post here in case someone asks me technical questions to which I don't know the answers! However ....

Over the past couple of days I've been onto the BT website to add an account and the Tesco website to order things with my clubcard vouchers. Last night I noticed that on the iGoogle tab, there was a BT symbol rather than a 'G', just like there is Martin's face on the top of this tab next to the words Moneysavingexpert, and a 'f' next to facebook, etc. This morning it is a 'Tesco 'T'.

I can see my iGoogle page as per normal. Last night I could access my Gmail and this morning I get a 502 server error and can't.

Now for the technical stuff ... I run Windows Vista business and have Kaspersky Antivirus which is up to day and scheduled to scan regularly. Probably the sum total of my technical knowledge  .

Any ideas what's going on? And ... is it safe ...?

If you're talking about the little icon's on the left of the address bar on the browser, it sounds like your browser has updated to support fav icons - nothing to worry about, basically when you visit a site the site can supply a small icon to go there whilst you're on that site.

Under Firefox 3.x you can also hover your mouse over the fav icon to see information about the site when you enter a secure (https) part of the site (logging into your play.com or amazon accounts for example will change the colour of the little tab on teh address bar, and tell you they are verified by verisign).

Nilrem why would there be a mis-match between sites and icons, ie. Tesco icon on Gmail site?

Because of a lack of general housekeeping on your PC. Try running ccleaner here. Read the tutorial here.

Hmmmm  . Shouldn't be, because I do housekeeping! I even defrag ;).

Gmail has come back on but it's not back to having the BT logo beside it!
