Exchange rates in Prague - Money advice please?

Morning all.

I am going to Prague next week for a long weekend as was wondering what was the best way to get money.

I have looked on the post office website and the exchange rate for CKR are 30.1932 to a pound.

Travelex are not at good with 1 Pound = 29.7956.

I have read that it may be a better exchange rate to actaully draw the money out there from ATM's? I am with Abbey National and will be using a standard debit card - has anybody done this and do they know if it is a better or does anybody know if the Abbey will charge me for using this service?

Many thanks for your help. :)

    M&S are usually quite good.
I always use a Nationwide card, too late to get one now. Something worth considering for the future, nice and easy with proper rates.

  • make a point on not using the exch. bureaux located on the main drag, wenceslas square. they lure tourists in with attractive rates, then hit them with crazy-high commisions.

this was the situation 3yrs ago. may have changed, but I'd still avoid.

Agree, I also saw a few being fleeced. There was an exchange place in Wenc. Sq. which did exchange (large apartment store) which may be safer.

    Hi,

I think there's no issue with using ATM's over there, that's what we did when we went (last November). But definately agree - don't use any of the tourist exchange places - they were ripping people off BIG TIME! Check out Trip Advisor for many more stories about this.

Avoid the CHEQUEPOINT exchanges in Prague. Although they gave me at the time a local map guide I aws ripped off with their huge commission charges.
They are all around the city and the one We used was by Prague castle

Each time we have been to Prague we have used ATMs and the rate has always been fine doing it that way. But we do use Nationwide Debit cards so there are no extra charges.

It may be worth getting a small amount of CZKs before you go, so that you can get travel tickets at the airport. If you do that your airport transfers are included at no cost.
