Hi All,
I've been trying to transfer a DVD Video using DVDDecrypter - so far I've managed to copy the Video file onto my hard drive using this software (no sign of the audio file though?). However, the file size is just under 8Gb so won't fit onto a 4.7Gb DVD. Do I need to use a certain type of DVD, and also what (if anything) do I need to do to the disc before & after copying (e.g. formatting, finalising etc) so that it will play on my Sony DVD Recorder please? And what about the audio file? Many thanks.

p.s. I have access to both XP and Vista (I've been using XP so far)

Try dvd shrink on the dvd. If you download Ripit4me it should do it all for you, its not getting developed anymore but is more up to date than dvddecryptor etc.0

If you want a perfect copy, you need to burn to a DUAL LAYER (8.5 gig) disc
Compressing with shrink WILL lower the quality (How much depends on how much its compressed):idea:0 -
Generally if you just want the movie with out any of the menus and extra features you dont need to compress it or if you do its very little thats needed.0

Thanks for the replies so far; I'm still a bit baffled by the correct proceedure to use. Basically I want to make a backup copy for personal use of a DVD Video using my pc, but the copy is for viewing via my TV and DVD player, and not on my pc.
I've got some Double Layer DVD's now - is it simply a case of using DVDDecrypter, or must I also use other software also/instead of? I want to maintain quality as much as possible, so don't want to shrink it unless I have to. I have access to both Vista and XP.
Bearing in mind i want to view the DVD on a DVD player is there a setting I must use to ensure the copy is in the correct format please?
The more I Google the subject the more confusing it all gets...
p.s. I keep seeing the term "Ripping" - what is this exactly please?
Many thanks.

Use decryptor to put the 'VIDEO_TS' folder on your computer (ripping)
http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Select 'write files/folders to disc'
Browse for the TS folder
Select the speed of the drive (Id suggest 2 speed as anything faster may be too fast for the drive on dual layer)
Then click the BUILD section to burn the files to disc (Make sure 'verify' is ticked so that afterwards, it checks the burned disc against the files on the hard drive)
I should have warned you however, the TYPE of discs can vary immensely where 'dual layer' is concerned (I use DATAWRITE TITANIUMs myself):idea:0 -
Have a read of https://www.doom9.org
Go to Guides, DVD Backup DVD/miniDVD thenb read the one about DVDShrink. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Ripping means copying from a DVD or CD to your hardrive
Go to https://www.doom9.org and read the guides there. Specifically go to Guides, DVD BAckup DVD/miniDVD, then read the DVDShrink guide. It's my problem, it's my problem

Many thanks - success!
I managed it using DVDDecrypter, followed by DVD Shrink them IMGBurn onto a Double Layer disc. It took awhile but plays fine. :T

if you used dvd shrink ~ it means youve COMPRESSED it to fit on a SINGLE layer disc (or extracted just the film or whatever)
Which means that using a dual layer disc was pointless:idea:0
