What is the best way to clean limescale and general residue from bathroom tiles?

My father recently passed away
however given that he lived as a single bloke for the past 16 years his bathroom hasn't had the TLC it should have.
The bathroom suite/tiles itself is fairly new, however it has a thick lining of limescale throughout.
Just wondering if any one has any tips to ease the elbow grease that I need to put in to get it sparkling again.
I've used citric acid for cleaning my baby's bottle steriliser and our kettle, would a solution of this work?

Try Cillit bang - the one that comes in a purple spray bottle. You may need a few applications (as it is 16 years worth).0

I swear by Dettol Mould and Mildew spray... make sure the room is well ventillated though as it smells very strong...0

i would also try something like 'barkeepers friend' or 'astonish paste' i swear by these items, they're eco friendly and cheap and its removed stains that bleach couldn;t shift. i usually put these things on and scrub gently with a plastic scrubber and leave for half an hour before rinsing off.totally a tog!:D0

White vinegar.....leave a solution on overnight and wash off in the morning. You will find that the limescale comes off very easily. For awkward places I used kitchen roll with vinegar on and used elastic bands to keep them in place (for taps etc) It was also clean shower heads very well too. If you are unsure about using it, test it on an inconspicuous place first.
You can usually purchase large 5 litre bottles of the stuff from your local chinese takeaway. Much cheaper too than the likes of cillit bang etc (and works better) Mind you...leave the windows open and a good air freshner for after helps!
Good luck...sounds like a mammoth task!
PS...whilst citric acid is good...be aware that it cleans by dissolving the grime...if not carefully used and cleaned off afterwards, it can continue to dissolve stuff you dont want dissolved!DEBT FREE DATE: 05/02/2015!Those things in life that we find the hardest to do, are the things we are the most thankful we did.0 -
