Advice for Pine Makeover

I have some very orange pine dining and bedroom furniture that needs re-painting but I have not a clue where to start.I would like to change it to a soft cream. Can it be done and which paint do you recommend? Will I need to sand down, use undercoat etc? Any advice appreciated!

I had a mahogony effect bath panel and other woodwork left in the bathroom by the previous owners. I didn't like it as it was too dark.
I gave it a rub with sandpaper to rough the surface, then gave it 1 coat of primer, 1 coat of undercoat and 1 coat of gloss. It worked fine and looks much better. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Eggshell would also be good and Farrow & Ball have a huge range of beautiful soft colours
The more preparation you do, the better the final finish will be. If it's just painted, sand it down. You don't need to fully remove the old paint but you need to "scratch" the surface all over to give the new paint a textured surface to cling to. Your undercoat needs to block out all remains of any orange colour, so you might need two coats.
Eggshell is water based so very easy to apply and it has a soft sheen finish.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

I've done this myself with my pine bedroom furniture and it worked wonders.
All I did was rub it down with sandpaper roughly, applied normal cream emulsion paint with a roller, waited for it to dry and then applied an acrylic varnish over it - top job and brand new furniture.0
