Yeah I know its the rules being followed. And they make sense to a point for the kind of normal state borrowing. For banks though they are patent nonsense - the notion that RBS has no assets and will lose every penny it has loaned out is laughable.

Of course that's true. By everyone following the same rules, it allows for international comparisons to be made by bond investors. I guess they're the ones that drive this.

I've had some interviews recently and I've been up late with nerves.

    Anthing exciting?

It really does sound like the Aussies know how to do things, though I just couldn't believe the price of property when I was in Melbourne & WA this time last year. One really has to believe that they are in for a major correction, simply ont he grounds of affordability.

I've LOVE to live in Melbourne (absolutely loved it) but my better half won't have any of it - its just to far from her family.

I'd rather not say what the job is. I guarantee nobody on this site will guess it in a month of Sundays. It's quite a change, put it that way (it wasn't working as a regulator although I have applied for a job doing that on the basis that at least one of us should know what we're doing!)

The Aussies have had their own house price bubble and prices are coming down (gradually generally, quickly in less popular suburbs and right across WA). The house price myth here isn't so much that prices won't go up but that they won't drop below what the person you're talking to paid for it. It makes for interesting conversation when you're at an intergenerational barbecue!

I really liked Melbourne when I went there. I love that Federation style of building that is prevalent there, the food is great and I like that it has a proper winter and summer.

Melbourne is fantastic. The friend I stayed with lives just 10 mins walk from South Melbourne food market and it was just sensational to go there and get good steak, good fish all at quite reasonable prices. Also got to mention that you get pretty good kitesurfing for 6 months of the year inside the bay. Couldn't ask for much more than that  Oh and the music is pretty good - went to St Kilda Festival and there are some fantastic Aussie bands, Labjacked (sp?) being one of them.

Thanks Wookster. I had always assumed that if we moved to Aus we'd end up in Melbourne. It seems like a great city.

I thought about becoming a Gigolo. Obviously the problem would be crowd control. They may be clients but they're only human......

The Aussie spell it Labor and it all gets terribly complicated.

setmefree2 - the only reason you know I didn't wear a hat like that to the SCG is that it's impossible to type with broken fingers!

I've got an application in to replace Richie Benault. Whaddya think. Will they give it to a Pommie like me?

StevieJ - I could cook the books as any decent banker can! Frankly having been around a couple of kitchens when it was 40C+++ I don't think I'm capable of cooking for a living over here.
