renting house to local council

hi guys,

need some help. Planning to work abroad in the near future.
I'm planning to rent out my house. what I'm hoping for-

Ideally I would not have to deal with any service/tenancy problems as I would be out of the country for upto 3 years.I have heard of people renting/leasing it to the local council. As long as the council - handing it back to u at the end of the tenure in the same condition u gave it to them- any ideas how to go about it? Is there a group of Estate Agents which assure you rent for atleast 10 or the 12 months, am I in dream land or this really happens??

I have spoken to the Mortgage Lenders and they have agreed to me renting the house, at an extra cost, which I don't mind.

Have a look on your council's website.

Phone your council and ask them. They don't take every property they are offered. They will want it for 4 years. The rent is most likely to be below the local private rent rate, but they do take care of all maintenance, they pay you rent for the whole period and you get it back in the same condition you let it.

Only your council will be able to tell you if they want a house like yours, in your road/area.
