Double Glazing Quote - Help Please!

Hi,
I have just had a quote for uPVC double glazing for the following:
1 x French doors
7 large windows (approximately 165x120cm)
3 small windows (approximately 50x120cm)
One new uPVC door
I have been quoted £6000 by Safestyle, £7,500 by Anglian and £15,000 by Everest.
Basically I would like to know if Safestyle's quote is fair, and if they are a reputable company to use (I know they are a huge company but my main concern is that a good job is done with the installation and I am getting a good product - this is my first house and a huge outlay of money for me).
Any help/advice appreciated!
Thanks.

I'll be watching your thread with interest charlietta.
I'm looking to order some french doors (with side panels to fill the gap of aluminium sliding patio doors 244cm wide) and a new front door.
I hope you get some replies.

I would get a quote from a good local company if i were you.
I had french doors fitted in feb 2004 for £750
I had a front door fitted in sept 2005 for £5??
And i had 10 windows (quite small) fitted in jan 2006 for £2980,and this included the self cleaning glass (pilkington activ).
All fitted by a local company,No deposit taken and nothing paid until i was happy with them.
I had a national company in about 6 years ago, they sent a young lad,he was just giving us the spiel about how we could get so much discount if we were used for advertising etc,he would ring the manager (yeh right) to see what the best deal was !,anyway, after about 2 hours,we managed to get a price out if him,and this was really expensive,so i showed him the the way out,it was a little easier because he was young, but i don't like doing things like that, but they were taking advantage.
Anyway,get a local quote,you have nothing to loose.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -
Yeah try some local FENSA registered people. https://www.fensa.co.uk I think.
I am having:
3 x Georgian Windows - 2 large, 1 small
2 x doors - 1 a stable
2 fixed medium size windows
2 x medium size standard windows
1 x large standard window
1 x small window
Thing around the front door - begins with a C and looks like roman pillars
5400.
The quotes we got were all from local companies and ranged from 5200 - 10600.
There are a lot of stories about on the internet about safestyle and the like.
The people we have gone with are in the same village as us and have done a house in the same style as ours a few doors up so I could check out the workmanship beforehand.
Hope this helps

I've had a quote from the same (local) company that fitted my back door in my current house.
French doors with side panels - £1190
Half panel/glazed front door - £500
To be honest, I'm going to use this company (Steve Keightley Windows, Cleethorpes 01472 291508 ) because I know how safe and secure my current back door is. There are signs of attempted break-ins (marks in the PVC) but no-one has ever gained access. Steve told us they were the securest doors available at that time (at least 8 years ago).
Even though we are moving to a 'much nicer area' with 'less crime' I'll still be happier to pay for the peace of mind that the doors will give us. I think I might even replace the existing PVC back door too. It's a full panel PVC door and makes the room darker.
I don't know how far Steve travels to fit windows but I can thoroughly recommend him and he's not a pushy salesman with offers that finish the same day.

Just searched on the FENSA website and Steve Keightley is listed.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Definitely go to a local firm with a long standing reputation, preferably with no frilly showroom and fancy painted vans - as the customer pays for all this.
I'm going with a local firm who doesn't advertise in the local papers - it doesn't need to it is so popular. They sell quality windows with 10 years guarantee on glazing units, handles, locks, frames and installation, and are in general value-for-money.
The waiting time is up to 6 weeks - thats because they are in demand. Another firm here has 3 week waiting period - because they are overpriced.
I dont think the nationals care about the customer or the quality of the work or the reputation. Just dont choose cheap - false economy.0
