Average Wedding Venue Costs - 100 people

Hey all

Just wondering what the average costs of booking a ceremony and reception for around 100 people including meal/buffet

How much difference is there in getting married on a Friday?

Any other advice...

Many thanks

honestly, thats a how longs a piece of string question

a buffet can be anywhere from £4 a head upwards, a sit down meal anywhere from £15 upwards, it all depends on what type of food you want, and how fancy the venue is

some venues include the hire of their premises in the food costs, others charge venue hire on top

A friday brings the price down a bit, but some venues have now decided that as fridays are becoming popular for weddings, then you only get cheap rates midweek - if you want a fancy venue, but want a good discount, then the best way is to attend a wedding fair, as most companies have odd days that they want to off-load at a bargain price and they aim to do this at the fair

The best moneysaving thing about weddings not at weekends, is they keep numbers down as some people cant attend

We had to come to terms with the fact that our reception is costing us a lot of money - however it i the venue that we want, with the numbers we need (and want - well mostly ;o) so we are saving money on everything else that we possibly can. I would not have believed the savings that you can make on al things weddingy if was not for this site so I would get looking through all these posts and you'll get some fab idas off people!

FYI my sit down meal is coming in at about £30 per head (ouch), evening BBQ about £13 per head (ow ow ow!) and I don't even want to mention the price they are charging for drinks/corkage! And I have 130 people at my day do! (why god why!) Scandalous!

I know some fellow MSEers will be fainting at the above but I really have made some fabulous savings elsewhere. Mum making BM dresses, auntie is on cake duty, family friend is a professional photographer to name a few! Good luck with your plans x

  • Thanks both...

Does seem as though the venue and food are the highest costs really, and like you said you can't really get around the costs and there are only so many places that are suitable for a wedding really...

Only just started looking but quite like the idea of being married in a Manor and having the reception at the same place, something like Stonehouse Court...
http://www.stonehousecourt.co.uk. Anyone got any ideas how much that is likely to cost?

I quite like the idea of having a Carvery rather than a traditional sit down meal, don't know if all places will be able to offer that though (don't know if it saves any money either)

    Going by your figures neeny....

    Meal - £30 x 100 = £3000
    Evening BBQ - £13 x 200 = £2600
    Average corkage - around £5 - x 50???? £250
  • I think the cost varies according to the region you are in..

I have been quated around 80 to 90 pounds a head for a 3 course seat down meal.

looked into hiring a hall and getting the caterers in, and again, this will cost me around 25 for a hot fork buffet, not including the hire charges, staffing, etc.....

i'm in berkshire, by the way....
  • Ours is 95 4 day meal =£1600
    evening buffet =£500
    wine =£450
To get married at the place it is £500 and for 2 people 2 come and marry us its £480 but it is cheaper by a little bit on a friday.
:jHas lots to look forward to in 2011!!:j

were paying £2800 for the hire (ouch). Weve got a Stately home and are renting 3 rooms for the whole day.
We will have no more than 43 for the day
We are getting the reception drinks off the venue for £15 a bottle (with complimentary orange juice)
The caterer is charging £33 a head for the sit down meal which is a 3 course meal. He has said he will put 23 bottles of wine out but any that he doesnt open we can either keep or he will refund us. (I think theyre about £7 a bottle) No corkage at venue

Our buffet is £8 a head for about 100 people weve got it cheaper as the caterer suggested to keep costs down we used the cake for dessert.

Hope this helps. this is one of the cheapest we have found where we are based and the caterers are also being toast master for us, They have also said they will decorate the tables as long as I give the instructions on how i want it

I've seen details of an absolutely stunning venue that seems extremely expensive.

Hire of the hall is £5,500 from 17.00-23.00 (no earlier as open to the public and £1,000 cheaper if not a Saturday). No dancing, but it is the most amazing hall you will ever see in your life and you can hire another room for evening dancing if you want. It holds 200 for the ceremony up to 480 for a seated wedding breakfast.

You have to use their caterers. Approx £62ph for the 3 course meal. £30ph for the fork buffet. £10ph for canapes. £25ph drinks (on arrival, water, wine with food, sparkling to toast speaches).

They have charges for everything like corkage is £10 per 750cl bottle of wine. You have to have security at an hourly charge with one guard per 60 guests! Also the cloakroom is £250. Then you have to add VAT to all these prices!!!

The website look stunning though! ;)
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
  • Wow Kynthia that is really expensive. It all depends on whether or not you think it's worth the money or not. Is this is the London area?
  • Yeah that is well expensive - dont think we will be spending anywhere near that much.

I was kind of thinking around the £6000 mark for Venue, Wedding/Evening Reception (assuming we have it in the same place)

Quite like the idea of having a manor house kind of place...

    Basing the £6k on roughly

    Venue Hire & Catering (hopefully Carvery) -100 people @ £30 per head - £3000
    Catering for evening buffet - 200 people @ £10 per head - £2000
    Entertainment - £300
    Corkage x 50 @ £5 per bottle = £250

    Does this sound realistic?

My venue charges £8.50 corkage per bottle! It's just scandalous! However after doing some maths it will still work out cheaper for us to buy our own wine as the venue's house wines start at £15. I was thinking of going to costco or similar or getting 3 for a tenner offers at supermarket. May only work out a couple of quid cheaper per bottle but when you are talking lots of bottles then every little helps!

I was thinking of having carvery but after speaking to OH we decided that based on the amount of guests, there may be a situation where lots of people have long since finished eating when over half may not have ven gotten up to get theirs yet. I know you will till get this to some extent with a waiter service but as the carvery also worked out about 3.50 per head dearer we decided on the normal 3 course meal option.
