    Hi laura2481

To try and answer some of your points (hope i make sense)

Mortgage is my half our total mortage is 968 a month without insurances which we are trying to get down, big mortgage of £161k and cant get that any cheaper trust me. got a discount by using hsbc plus as offered cheaper rate and free holiday insurance.

As other hlaf earns a bit more the agreement is that he pays the bits i have a zero for, so its my car but i dont use it (saving money) so he needs it for work (needs to go to site etc) so i only pay for the car tax and a tank of fuel a month.

Mobile phone am trying to get down but payg would be no good to me as need phone to contact terminally ill dad and disabled mother, paying freinds and family to get calls free and i need them lol but investigating a lower tariff. definitely investigate that lower tarrif! Do you get a cable/satellite/broadband package? Some companies do a cheaper mobile tarriff if you do eg Virgin

That is all i spend for food, other half does the same, this also buys cat food and i admit we struggle for food and are v v v good with meal planning. Actually, if you are spending 200 quid per month on food this could be cut down by 50 quid or so. OH and I pay around 120 per month including cat food. but then, maybe you have an army of cats! :rotfl: Pop over to the Old Style Money saving board. They are all about saving money on food and cleaning and stuff over there!

The medical is dentist a month and allowing for £10 a month twoards the prepayent as i need 7 items a month so it works out cheaper, doing dentist as i had £360 pounds of work last year and will need more work so joined denplan. ouch :( know the feeling, I had 470 quids worth of stuuf done the other year  Too many sweets for me methinks!

The £5 is my personal life insurnace which i have had for a few years and pays out a set amount, not worht stopping as i have paid for several years and it pays out £86k if i die.

Xmas and birthdays is such a pain got 7 neices and nephews and sister in law who is a right cow, i spent about £10 - £15 on each for both so thats a lot so thinki= im gonna be the dark sheep of family but tough. I agree it cant continue :(7! Well, it probably is a bit mean to stop pressies all together, maybe cut down to little pressies around 5 pounds. If sister-in-law doesn't like it then tough, really. it's not worth getting in a mess over. you can always spend a little more again when your finances are bit more cheerful!

Had a smack in the teeht yesterday, egg initially agreed a £5500k interest free card but after i signed and they did their checks its come down to £2500 interest fre limit and doesnt cover the amount...so angry! which means we have the joint credit card coming off interest free in March neither of us can get anohter card so we are stuffed :(Darn.

Going to over pay HSBC as sat down with other half last night, but be able to move the HSBC to my interest free barclay card so gonna look into that.

I get paid tommorrow so starting it from tommorrow. Got two saving accounts set up which im moving things around on and going to overpay as much as poss but according to new budget break down i have £17 a month left so will have to see.

My last treat was seeing confessions of a shopaholic (took own snakcs) how appropriate
    yep:rotfl:

Sorry no pound sign on this stupid keyboard at work (dunno why, weird) hence all the quids and pounds!!
  • yup virgin signal no good where i live or O2 tis a a nighmare but already on the case with vodfaone, also phoning up RAC to see when i can cancel as i can get same with green flag for £72 for the year rather than £16 a month with RAC. Changing contents and life cover in april when renewal, taht wil then go off credit card that we jointly have. We are going to try and reduce food down and put that towards credit card debt.

When my pay goes up in april im going to put that straight on credit cards, wont miss it then.

I wish i had found this site a few years ago.

Also have been turning down nights out with friends, they just dont seem to understand having no money. For instance a friend wanted us to go to a night dinner thing which would have cost £85, i said i cant so they said ok will make it cheaper so its only £50 urghhhhhhhh so hard to explain. Have said all my money is going to clearing debts so i can have a family and not worry.

Nightmare! At least when i tell folks i've got no money they listen, it must be really hard being pressured.

Saying that, last year I did say to my OH we should go on holiday this year (lived together nine years and haven't yet had a holiday by ourselves) knowing full well I had no idea how I was going to pay for it and now he keeps asking about where are we gonna go and when are we gonna book
Silly me. Will have to keep putting him off... maybe we'll manage a long weekend away somewhere....

Anyways I digress, don't let the pressure get to you. It's easy to give in and spend money you know you don't have then feel guilty about it and get stuck in vicious cycle. Been there. Done that :D
  • yup definately, been paid today so its the start of the new budget. Putting money in different pots, phoning up RAC today to cancel as got it cheaper.

So what is the state of play with your credit cards- if you tell be the apr's, balance transfer rate and fee and available credit I may be able to give you some advice on juggling the balances. I managed this quite succesfully. (down to 2 from 4, all on cheapest possible apr's for the minute)

Also have you had any late payment/over limit charges on your credit cards? I claimed back £150 from Barclaycard just before christmas and it was reletively easy- just 2 letters!

Also, have a look at the snowball calculator http://www.whatsthecost.co.uk/snowball.aspx This lets you see how long it will take to pay off your cards if you pay the minimum, overpay, or pay off the highest interest card first. It's a bit of an eye opener! :D
  • hello

Ok coming off interest free in End march is our joint halidax at £5700, the apr will then be 16.9%

My hsbc is £465 at 16.9apr
My barclays at £2300 is interest free till next jan phew

think thats it, Egg have given me £2500 interest free but gonna kick off and get the £5500 limit to move the halifax over that myself and hubby share.

  • OMG just done that on my halifac one on £5700 this is what i got, is it right if so flamming heck!

It will take you 105 months to pay off these debts if you snowball correctly. During that time, you'll pay £4,787.00 in interest.
