Corinne - are you in Scotland?
This would explain your having to wait for a creditor to take you to court as you can't instigate bankruptcy (called sequestration in Scotland) yourself as one can in England.
It would also explain the new arrangement which is coming into force - the Debt Arrangement Scheme which gives the debtor some protection by the courts against their creditors. It's not available yet and will only be suitable for certain people who have certain amounts of debt and available income.
