CAB
Going to phone my local CAB tomorrow, had a debt problem for a while & buried our heads in the sand for 2 long , hope it isnt too long before we can get 2 see a debt adviser.I can see from this website thats lots of people have bigger money worries than we do, so hopefullywe'll be able to sort it out .I've written down all our incomings & outgoings, my only worry is that the creditors wont accept what we're able to pay , but fingers crossed ........

Excellent , as you know lot of MoneySavers here recommend contacting the CAB for advice etc.
I think we would be interested in hearing how your appointment goes next week.
LeiaI want to be a good saver, but I find it difficult to control my temptation to spend .
I owe £1,247 more than I have in savings .

Good luck with your CAB appointment. They will help you negotiate with creditors either through self help or by negotiating on your behalf. The way they work out the offers to creditors is similar to that of the courts so most of the time the creditors accept the amounts. Take all details of your income and expenditure with you. At least you aren't ignoring the problem any more and the situation can only improve now!Torgwen.......... ...........0 -

Went to the CAB on tuesday, explained that we were in no better a postion this year to pay our creditors than we were last year , so now waiting for either creditors to take us to court before we go for bancruptcy, OR the woman at the cab office explained that that theres a new kind of arranged payment plan coming into force which will benefit a lot of people like us who would struggle to pay our creditors what they really wanted each month.we would pay only what we could afford to pay, without having to live a completly miserable existance otherwise. She also said, we werent the only ones , she had 3 drawers full of people in the same situation as us all waiting for this new payment option to come into force& as we're near the beginning of the alphabet we should get dealt with promtly, ......so heres hoping its up & running before we're taken to courtBe ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

But you are actually paying all your creditos something each month, aren't you? I'm a little surprised at CAB as one can normally negotiate with creditors if you can't afford to pay them all what they want. It can be hard work, but you simply write to them all, enclose your budget and offer them £x per month.
Do make sure you pay them something, otherwise they'll eventually pass the debts on to a collection agency and they can be quite "heavy".
Also consider contacting Payplan
https://www.payplan.com
or the Consumer Credit Counselling Service
https://www.cccs.co.uk
These are both genuine free debt management companies, not the ones that charge you a fee.
Might be worth seeing if they can help, especially as you have your budget ready prepared.
Good luckWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
"waiting for creditors to take us to court before we go for bruptcy" (sorry havent worked out how to do it so its got the yellow box round it)
If you are seriously considering bankruptcy do it asap and dont wait for creditors to take you to court - i dont see anything to be gained in waiting for them to take you to court. If you mean they are going to make you brupt, unless you have lots of assests (in which case bruptcy may not be the best plan) then its unlikely they will bother.
I am also confused about this new payment scheme, its nothing ive heard of (perhaps local to that cab) but you can make payment arrangements with your creds at any time and at affordable rates eg for as little as £1 per month. I would ask CAB for more details so you know what your waiting for - the sooner you sort it out the less stressed youll feel0 -

To do this, simply click on the word 'quote' above the message you specifically wish to quote from. This copies the whole of that message into your own reply box initially, and the quoted segment is always contained by a set of special square brackets with a [* quote*] at the start of the segment and a [*/*quote*] at the end. (I had to put * characters in to prevent the characters having the effect of quoting the text.. "at the start of the segment and a" itself!)
You will soon get the hang of this, and quickly work out many new tricks
To see how any other clever folks have spiced up their own replies - not just the ones you wish to reply to - click 'quote' and you will see their whole message, including the 'control codes' used......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
