Each borough offers different funding options for people in old age? some areas of london are relatively generous others aren't . apparently boroughs work very independently so you could be in a borough where you will have to sell all your assets to get carer help others don't do this to you. Anyone know what it is like in their borough? this sounds very unfair that people in the wrong postcode again wont get the help they need. wonder what it is like in your local area. thanks

Are you referring to long term residential placements or homecare? I'll assume the first.
All councils in England and Wales are governed by law to follow a set of guidelines issued by the Department of Health. These guidelines do state that someone with a property is required to sell this in order to pay the full cost of the home unless they can generate the revenue elsewhere. Most councils will allow you enough time to sell the property though and will generally defer part of the payment with an agreement.
Therefore you will be required to sell the property in any borough, it won't make a difference. Most councils do have slight differences in their rules, especially when it comes to the property but they all follow the same basic guidelines. Some councils offer longer disregard periods for example.
The only major change between boroughs is the cost of the placement, although this is normally out of the councils control. Scotland is a completely different kettle of fish altogether though.

example give a certain amount of financial help to people even who own a property. every borough works differently as i am told by the homecare service i have been in contact with. hope that clarifies things. Are you referring to long term residential placements or homecare? I'll assume the first.

Homecare and residential care work differently. Homecare isn't governed by the same laws as residential care and therefore councils are fairly free to make up their own rules regarding the funding of homecare. However, due to the property being required (as they are still living there) it should be disregarded by any council and not considered an asset.0

Just like to point out that when we tried to get house cleaning help for OH's parents in Kingston Upon Thames a few years ago, we went through a long procedure and waited about 6 months for it to be sorted out. Only to find out they had no more capacity as not enough staff. Sometimes what their leaflets offer, and what is actually available is not the same thing.0
