Kaupthing/ING special rate

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I've had a quick scan and can't find anything.

When my Kaupthing money moved across to ING (where I already had an account) I got a letter saying that I could select to have a special interest rate on the new ING account, which I did.

Now I've just noticed I can move money between my original ING a/c and the new KE one, with a better interest rate. Does anyone know if I can just whack all my ING savings into the new a/c and get the better rate on all of it, or if they only pay on the ammount that was actually in the a/c at the time of transfer?

cheers - oceanpie

  • I can't see why not - it's not a new customer bonus and is being offered at the price of giving up your rights to 0.3% above base rate until February 2012.

It looks like a Flash Media ad - about 2cm high 8cm wide with 4 or so "scene changes", lots of scrolling graphics. You're probably mentally filtering it out !

It's hidden in a graphic on the top right of the page - or not as in my case. I had to phone to get the offer rate.

I don't see the advert either. I managed to get it last week but after clicking on it I had the message: server not available at this time. Since then I haven't had the message displayed on my account. I guess I will have to ring them.

Got an email yesterday from ING remonding me abotu the offer:

Their offer is 3.51% gross p.a. (variable) 2.53% AER including 2.02% gross p.a. fixed bonus rate for 6 months.

However in their last letter earlier this month the rate was 4.0% gross p.a. (variable) for 6 months (3.03% AER).

    Which one is real?

Just rang them and indeed the rate has dropped from 4.0 to 3.51....
  • ;) Hi All.

Ing Direct seem very keen on getting me to change over to this "special rate" and give up my current +0.3% above base rate till 2012, I have had a letter, brochure and email prompting me to do this.

At the risk of being an old cynic maybe it is more for their long term benifit than mine !

After all with the base rate as low as it is the only way is surely up long term ?

    Just a thought.

    Pokey.
  • If like me you had a current ING account and now have a second one with your Kaupthing savings in, you have the best of both worlds. I'm going to move all of my old ING across into the one with the bonus rate (I got the info about this in a letter, btw. Have just received a further letter today, reminding me!) whether the rate applies to this extra money or not, I should be no worse off. If the situation reverses, I shall move it back into the old account, or into an entirely new higher paying account.

Same situation as you and yes I did move my money (most of it) from my original ING account to the new "Kaupthing" account yesterday to get that extra bit of interest. Will then decide what to do when the bonus runs out in August.
ING confirmed the bonus applies to all money in that account until the end of the bonus period.
