How much will xbox live ACTUALLY cost me!

Hi guys

I wanted to know how much xbox live will actually cost me, not just in terms of monthly money but I dont really know what I need to buy.

I'm getting an xbox elite as part of a phone deal and would like to play my friends online at fifa.

I am on wireless broadband at the moment, so have a wireless hub sat about 5 metres from the tele and the place the playstation will be.

I will probably use it a couple times a week. What exactly will I need? and how much would you estimate cost is?

Thanks
I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

Xbox live is £35 for a year if you shop around and you will need a wireless adaptor for the xbox (£40ish) or an ethernet cable of the correct length

well you would need an xbox live subscription @ £40 per year, but i'm sure if you hunt around you will find it for much less.

as for connecting it up to the network, if you want it wireless the adapter will cost around £60 (again, probably can be found cheaper if you hunt around) or get a ethernet cable long enough to go from the back of the xbox to the router for a few £.

I've bought my last couple of memberships from this site. No problems at all. I've recommended them to several friends/family and they've had no problems either.

  • If you want to go wireless, the adapter to do so is £45 currently at Amazon, although for online gaming you will be better off with an ethernet cable.

The Xbox Live Gold subscription can be picked up for £30 from reputable online sellers, or you can pay monthly direct to Microsoft for £4.99.

Aye it is £60 a year if you want the flexibility of just paying each month as it comes. Not the best way to do it, but you still retain the ability to cancel if you don't find you're using it much and could make a saving.

https://www.Jasper1675.com is the best place to get the 13month subscriptions from, great service.

Just a quick question, Im not sure if its been picked up yet. Your thread is called how much will xbox live ACTUALLY cost me!

Yet in your post the playstation is going near the TV.

So which console are you getting? Xbox live is for the xbox 360, Playstation network (PSN) is for the PS3.

Both need an internet connection, wireless or not it doesnt matter.
PSN is a free service no charges or subscription required.
Xbox live Gold is a subscription service, it can be paid monthly or anually, you can often get free 1 month cards in games and stuff. the annual subscription RRP is about £40 but you can buy codes on ebay for less. I have seen them for £18.
Xbox live silver is a free service but doesn't allow online play.

The PS3 has wireless networking built in so no additional hardware to buy just connect it to you wireless network.
The Xbox 360 needs an addtional wireless adaptor, the oficial one is simple to install (just plug it in) and clip it on the back it is expensive the official price is about £60. But they can be bought for slightly less. There are alternatives but they usually require a seperate mains connection and look untidy.

I'm guessing "playstation" was a typo.

If the wireless hub is about 5 metres away (and in the same room) then surely you should just buy an Ethernet cable that's just over 5metres? Even though it will be slightly messy it will be much cheaper than going for the wireless option. (I don't what hub you have but does it have ethernet ports? I am assuming it does)

This 10m ethernet cable is under £4: http://www.amazon.co.uk/10m-Grey-Ethernet-Cable-RJ45/dp/B000IT5POY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1235409764&sr=8-2

  • Anyone know if there is any truth that xbox live is going to be free in near future?
