Traced Old Account - Maybe????

I'm hoping this is the right place for this question ...

Last year I used the tracing service to try and find an old account of mine that I wasn't sure existed.
I had a letter from the BBA on 7.1.2009 informing me that they had information from a member bank indicating that such an account may exist and that the said bank would be contacting me within 28 days.

Well I never heard diddly so a couple of weeks ago I telephoned BBA and they said they would send the bank a reminder.

Still zilch ... and the BBA tell me this process could take 'weeks.'

Well it's already been weeks and I haven't even been contacted regarding whether the account is mine or not yet, never mind made a claim.

Normally I would be a little more patient but funnily enough I tried to claim a mortgage exit fee from the same bank before Christmas and was told it would be within 25 days ... just phoned back this morning and apparently they have no record of my application .... despite them knowing my current post code ... funny that.

So, upshot is, I don't trust them as far as I could throw them and wondered if anybody else had a similar experience that could shed light on the time scales involved here?

  • It sounds like they're in no rush to get your money back to you. Attached link checks banks, building societies and ns&i - but looks like you have already found the account.

My only experience was with ns&i and they found the account and sent a cheque to me within a couple of weeks of filling out a few forms. Keep chasing them up.

  • Thanks Alistair,

Yep, that's where I started the trace from and actually did it last year before I found MSE. Thing is, even though they are suggesting the account is mine, until they contact me with details of it then I can't progress any further. The annoying thing is, it may well not be mine and all this hassle is for nothing!

I'll leave it another few days and then email (rather than telephone) the BAA and ask for more specific info.

    Glad you found yours though!!!!
