Churcill insurance, renewal quote........

just dropped through the door.
Have been on there website & the quote has come up £70 cheaper. Now i know new cutomers get a discount, but this is taking the p*ss. Before i contact them, what do you think the outcome will be, do i insist they take the £70 off or won't they budge.
if i had known then what i know now

Shop around, and if they are still cheapest, then just buy the policy "new" off the website and let the renewal lapse.

I did this with Churchill (through screentrade) the last 2 years on 2 different cars. No issues for me
  • Each year we let the policy expire and buy it new again on the website. If with greasy palm get cashback too.

We changed to 2 to drive and it was cheaper than just 1. Something to do with spreading the risk.

personally I would avoid CHURCHILLS at all costs...through personal experience and as an employee of RBS (who own them)!!!

They lose paperwork all over the show, then acuse you of not sending it in the first place! If you misstell them a quote from another insurer by 1p and they have proof of it, they write you a snotty letter virtually calling you a liar etc etc. I cancelled my policy after 1 week! Talk about shabby insurers!

I went with Sainsburys bank after that, they were £100 cheaper. But this year...Sheilas Wheels could beat any other quote by a long shot. For female drivers only of course. :j
  • I'm not sure who Churchill's "profile" is but they all have them! Definitely just cancel your renewal quote and apply again as a new customer if Churchill are the cheapest for you. I'm sure you've done it already but Martin's article on car insurance is obviously worth going through. I've just saved over £150.00 by checking on confused.com, etc. I was screaming with frustration by the end of the process but have been smiling smugly every time I turn the key in the ignitition since!

Try Lloyds TSB and Nationwide I think they're Churchill policies and when I was looking recently it was way cheaper than going direct thru Churchill. Lloyds TSB via topcashback good £200 cheaper on my sons insurance, and moneyback on top.

i have always bought new again for the last 3 years for mine and hubbys cars if the quote came up cheaper. i have never had any issues. the difference is always more than any first customer discounts they give.:happylove
  • my son had content/building insurance with the halifax. his new quote was £490 without any claims..this was nearly £100 more than last year. he called them and asked for a further discount and they said they couldn't do it any cheaper. he cancelled it and went on their website and took out an exact new policy with them for £ 360.. are we getting ripped off?

They are pretty incompetant. My friend has only just received his excess fee back despite the fact that it was a clear cut case. It took several months to try to get churchill staff off their backsides.

By the way, his wife is also an employee of theirs. She gets a 25% staff discount off her insurance. She applied online for a quote last year as a new customer and it that came out £85.00 cheaper then her renewal with the staff discount. Unbelievable!.
