Support Cancer Research UK and NSPCC for just £1.00 but make a real difference.

Morning all,

Long time MSE'er here although not posted for a while, new babies and all that.

Just wanted to tell you about some recent events that I am doing in support of the offical charities 'Cancer Research UK' and 'The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children'.

I'm running the Humberbridge 10k, Leeds 10K and York 10k all dressed as a school girl!

Why o why would I want to do that?

We are all guilty of taking what we have for granted and can moan about the little things that don't really matter compared to the problems so many other people including children may have. I'm lucky enough to be fit and healthy but there isn't a day goes by that there isn't some form of doom and gloom on the television about another horror story. I'm betting we have all had a situation within the last 12 months that has made you stop and think, but we soon forget!

So what, not my problem?

Yes your right, it isn't my direct problem but I'm not one for sitting around moaning. I am very fortunate so I'd like to give something back and help the people who may have no choice.

Why school girl?

I could run without dressing up but I have exercised for the last 16 years and feel I can complete the distance (thou not done it yet). Normal fancy dress is ok but people soon forget, therefore dressing up as a school girl ISN'T something I have done nor was I planning on doing anytime soon. I'm hoping this will at least give people a smile and make me look like a right wally (original word removed) :-)

Why not run longer distance?

I could do but ideally I want to keep it local and the cost down hence I am doing 3 runs instead of one. If this goes well then I maybe next time..

Who am I doing it for?

I'll be running for two charities, they are 'Cancer Research UK' and 'The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)'.
Unfortunately Cancer effects 1 in 3 people and closing our eyes and saying it won't happen to me isn't really good enough. I'm sure we all know of somebody who has been effected by this killer disease and more hard work is still required to continue the great researching work already done. Cancer and heart disease are still Britains biggest killers!

In my view every child has the right to be live in a safe and loving environment. We all know this isn't the case. Again I refer you to the media items over the past 12 months for some of the true horror stories. We can make a difference and with your help I'd like to try.

On reflection I'm sure I could bare wearing a silly outfit for 3 races in support of these two great charities and the people they are helping.

What do I want off you?

All I'm asking ask is just £1 per person, that’s JUST £1 for all 3 races!
Why just £1? I fully understand that times are hard with the current slowdown but these charities still need funding and people still need help. If everybody I know gives just £1.00 as well as passing this to their friends, family and colleagues then this will make an VERY BIG difference.

This also eliminates the stigma attached with sponsorships forms, Johnny gave £10 so I better follow otherwise they'll think I'm tight.
