Pgce

DH wants to go back to college, to get his PGCE. He will get an award of £6,000. Will he be due any benefits (council tax benefit for example)?

You might be. Have a look at the entitledto website and feed in your theoretical income. I'm not sure whether the PGCE grant 'counts' as income - the student board would have that answer, I think - and it depends how many hours you're working, whether you're renting or paying a mortgage etc.

  • If you're over 25 you're probably entitled to Working Tax Credit and Council Tax Benefit. You will also be entitled to Housing Benefit if you are renting. The Working Tax Credit is the main one at that level of income.

There is also a scheme for company Directors who can't afford to pay themselves. You'll get £160 per month.
