Hi
I have the panasonic breadmaker which I bought a few years ago.Unfortunately I have been unable to use it as I became dairy intolerant.
In the reciepe for making bread panasonic recommend adding milk powder. Can anyone suggest an alternative to this so I can make bread again.I can substitute the butter for margarine its just the milk powder that is causing the problem.
A big thanks to anyone who can help as the breadmaker is just lying there redundant .

I have a panasonic too and my son is Lactose Intolerant. I have never used butter I use oil. The instruction book says you can do this. 1 tbsp oil = 1/2 oz of butter.
And as for milk powder I just leave it out. Think the bread is better without it.0 -
I don't use a breadmaker myself, but I do make a lot of bread and I don't use any milk or fat in it. Try leaving the milk powder out;)
I'm sure you can use marge instead of butter. Personally I'd use sunflower oil.0 -
I use oil and water. No milk or butter at all.0

The milk powder helps make a soft crust, so leaving it out is fine
I'll add this to the Panasonic BM QQ thread later, to keep ideas together.

I never bother adding dried milk, even though it is in the recipe. I also use olive oil instead of butter and it works out fine. Have you still got the instructions for your bread maker,it has the conversion quanties in mine for the olive oil (the amount to use in fluid measurement iyswim)0

I'll add this to the thread with an identical question asked earlier today

lol apologies PP!
Didn't see this one!0 -
The oil only makes for better keeping qualities, and the milk (powder or fresh) softens the crust. You can make bread quite acceptibly with just flour water and yeast, with a little salt if you like (this just kills the yeast off to stop the dough going bananas, and adds a little flavour, so you can leave the salt out too!)Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
