I've been called for Jury Service - help!!!

I don't know where to post this so feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place. I've done a search and can't find anything helpful.
I've been called for Jury Service and for a number of reasons don't feel I can do it at this time.
1. I have a holiday booked during the period of jury service. Can they make me cancel my holiday?
2. I have recently completed treatment for Breast Cancer and just don't feel I can deal with the stress of Jury Service at this time.
3. It would cause real problems for the organisation I work for.
Does anyone know if any of the above are reason enough to get out of doing it?
Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.

you can get your service deferred as u pre-booked your holiday, you could go to your doctor and get a note explaining that your not up too it at the moment due to ur treatment and if you work for a political organisation you should let the jury service know, but they usually ask you when u have to fill in the forms if you have any outside interests poss.0

Thanks cooki2222. I work for a charity so I don't think it's covered by any of the exemptions.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

Extremely unlikely to get exemption because of work. If holiday has been paid for, then proof of payment will be acceptable. I'm sure reason 2 would be the best route to go and as cookie2222 suggests a letter from your Dr would get you exemption.0

Point No 2
get a doctors letter and they will accept that0 -
I know when my husband was called a few years ago we had a holiday booked, it was only a cottage in Fermanagh but we had paid a deposit and we weren't able to go at any other time. We were able to submit a copy of the booking and able to defer it to a different time, I think he just went into the next batch of jurers, as holiday was August and he was called again late Sept.0

Jury service?
One result of filling in the electoral register0 -
A letter from your GP is fine for putting them off;) especially in your circumstances, hope all is well now.
Worked for my wife, but she got called again:eek: had to go the second time:oI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
They are usually pretty good. I was supposed to do jury service March last year, I was in the middle of being made redundant at the time, I explained this on the form and got it deferred until the November. Just explain your reasons and they should be ok, however please bear in mind you can only defer once.0

I know you have an excuse because of your holiday, but I would just like to say that people I know who didn't want to do it but had to, found jury service really interesting and were pleased to have been part of it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've phoned my GP and she agrees I wouldn't be in a mental state to deal with jury service at the moment. She's writing a letter for me to send with the request for an excusal. That's a big weight off my mind for the time beingMember #7 SKI-ers Club
