Morning all
Just a reminder that this week I'm not drinking or buying wine !!
The good news is that yesterday was alcohol free :j . However it usually is on a Monday as I start off the week with good intentions then come Wed or Thursday after a bad day at work, 3 screaming kids, the wine bottle is usually calling me. BUT NOT THIS WEEK.
Talking of screaming kids its back to school today after half-term , I usually end up screaming at them before we get out the door BUT NOT TODAY !!
Anyway better go and get my shower before the 3 little monkeys get up.
See you later0 -
Hi 40somethingmum.
just remembered a book I read, if you get the time read 'the road less travelled' by M Scott Peck Seems to have a lot of answers in it;)
What about getting yourself water with lemon juice and ice cubes in it, maybe the ritual of corks and wine glasses is all part of it, if you could fiddle around with a different thing it may help?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

Hi, just popped in to say good luck with your journey! As you can see from my signature I'm trying to lose weight too (not much success at the moment). With me you can substitute choclate for the wine (although to be honest I like the wine as well - they go so well together):D
Have you stopped using your credit cards? I have set myself the target of not using my credit cards at all this year. If I can do it for a year then I can do it forever. So far so good - believe me it is a struggle, but I'm trying to change my whole mindset. :T
There is so much help and inspiration on this site - I wish I had found it years ago, but better late than never.Debt free and Keeping on Track0 -
HAve you thought of having a wine jar? Just a little jar ( anything will do) and every time you DONT buy wine when you normally would have then put whatever you could spend in that. If you normally spend about a fiver on a bottle, and have a bottle a day ( not sure if you do) you should end up with around 2 grand of saving after a year.
However, you may find as I did ( I used to spend about a fiver a day on diet coke!) That this money was never there in the first place & indeed i was paying for this habit out of debt! ( ie overdrafts, spending on CCs in the big shop etc)
You might want to take some time to think about what wwine gives you of an evening- you seem to suggest drinking as a relaxant. However, as you know its also a depressant and can make you run on empty much quicker.
What about other - almost free relaxants? Im thinking a bit of yoga ( you can easily pick up videos in charity shops, even saw one in 99p stores today) long baths and pampering, and meditation. I was v sceptical of meditation but now im getting into it, I can definately recommend it. I definately feel my mind is much sharper after mediation and I sleep much better too. I deal with a high level of stress both physical & mental with my job and even I have felt like a drink is the answer. ( when i know it really isnt)
Drinking less, will definately make you a better partner and parent, my OH used to drink everyday out of habit and he gave it up predominantly for moneysaving. Hes now a much better person, more open, and much more productive of an evening and hes a fantastic conversationalist ( and lover
without 6 beers under his belt. Health wise, hes lost loads of weight and looks well trim now- he does zero excercise and it all just fell off him once he gave up the booze. His sister drinks pretty mncu hevery day too is stony broke and often bluesy. I worry about her- she complains and streses about having no money yet spends a fiver a day on wine, 35 quid a week makes a big difference in a debt laden budget!
I'll definatley be looking in on you. I paid my debt off with DFW help but know my life needs to be beter I work too hard and dont take care of myself and often am v crap fiancee! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi 40something mum - good luck on your journey! I'm new to this too having visited the site often and am inspired as to how everyone is so supportive of each other.
I tried to give up the wine for a week but himself said gin was not a substitute!
Look forward to reading your updates!0 -
Just found this thread - a lot of it sounds familiar to me!!!
I find wine is a habit that is TOO easy to fall in to. After work, kids in bed, glass or two, TV, couch potato lifestyle. Trying not to drink alcohol in the week, and it does help to have some nice non-alcoholic drink in.
Will tag along for the ride - could do to lose pounds off me and add them to my bank account!0
