Power shower pump

Hi all,

I want to do up my bathroom and have a quick question. I currently have a wall mounted power shower (you know the sort, white box with pressure and temperature controls). I want to replace this with a separate pump somewhere on the system, with mixer unit mounted on/in the wall.

I have a false wall behind which the hot and cold pipes can be positioned.

Questions:

- what sort of pump would i need and be easiest to fit? I think it is a single impeller.
- the current shower can output up to 14 ltrs per minute. I ran it over the weekend at full blast (normally I only have it at level 2 of 9) and it only just managed 2 longish showers (which is enough to be fair). The tank is situated in the airing cupboard and is approx 400mm diameter by 700mm high (90 litres?). If I installed a 1.5 bar pump, would the hot water tank run empty?
- where would the pump be put? If it could be up in the loft then that would be easiest, but would there be enough pressure from the hot water tank to run it? It would be over a metre higher than the wall mounted pump unit currently.
- the mixer units i have looked at have hot and cold taps only. Based on the size of the tank, would i be better to get one with a pressure control as well so i could eek out the hot water?

Many thanks.

the size of the cold water tank is the important one. If the hot water tank running out of hot water will have no bad affects other than the shower going cold. Seen as a good thing if you have a teen age daughter. ;)

14l/m is not a lot for a shower. you can get them 30l/m plus!

mount it in the roof but make sure its below the height of the cold water tank or you need a special pump.
  • what sort of flow rate would i get with a 1.5 bar pump? That's the minimum i've seen. I could go to 2.0 bar but 3.0 bar is too expensive.

Cold water tank is fairly big, not sure on exact dimensions but i've never known it to be less than half full.
