We own a business (holiday flats) and are looking to put this up for sale. Any advice on what to ask the Estate Agent and what to watch for, as have never done this before. Thanks.

You need to find an estate agent with experience in businesses, not a residential one. Also a national presence as I guess people outside your area could be interested.

Remember you want the agent with the best chance of selling the business, not the one that values it at the highest price or the one with the lowest commisssion.

  • It is some time since I sold a business, but at the time I employed a specialist Business Agent, who was one of many who advertised in the Daltons Weekly. If it is still available, it might be worth getting a copy to see who deals with properties in your area, and then contact them for rates.Be warned, their charges are likely to be higher than a domestic estate agent, but this reflects their experience in this field, and they can also advise potential purchasers of commercial mortgages etc.
