NCD Proof of Bonus

Options
Hi,

Policy servicing really isn't my forte, but I'm sure that there will be plenty of people who might be able to help me out.

How long does a policy have to run before an insurer will issue a proof of NCD?

ie. As an example I might 5 years NCD, but haven't had my own policy for 1 year and 9 months. I want to preserve my NCD, and to do this will take a policy on a banger for a brief a period as possible (taking into consideration cancellation fees/admin charges etc).

How long would I need to actually insure for to obtain a new (and valid for another 2 years) proof of NCD?

Cheers,

    In theory one day.

There are companies including Norwich Union who will accept the no claims bonus up to three years old.
  • LOL! I was just going to pop a reply on here to say that I would assume it would only be a few days and to add that I hoped dacouch would be on here to help you! and Dacouch has! I would make sure tho that your new Insurance company have received and accepted your old proof of bonus before you cancel.

Good point cocobean12 and make sure you keep your proof of no claims bonus proof safe (Its always a good idea to keep a photocopy of it as some companies have their faxes and letter boxes next to file 13)
  • lol - hmm... the circular filing cabinet?

I work for an insurer (TP claims) and just know very little about servicing (because of course where I work that's almost exclusively done offshore  ) - but that's good advice, thanks.

I wasn't asking in this instance for me, but it's good to know.

Does that mean that they would issue the Proof of NCD even within the 14 day cool-off?

    Cheers ta

As long as they cancel the policy rather than NTU (Not taken up) the policy.

If your not sure let it run for 15 days but make sure you know what the cancellation charges are. There is a thread on this if you do a search.

I'm guessing you work for NU or the delightful Axa then
