inspiRED DAB Micro Hi-FI with ipod dock £79.99 at Sainsbury's INSTORE

Just been down to Sainsbury's. I was particularly interested in this hifi
My hifi has seen better days, but I hardly use it for records or CDs these days, I guess I have my PC playing through it most of the time because it's also in the dining room and I can listen to CDs on my PC if needs be or music on line, and listen through the hifi, so it's important to me that it has aux input.
Only snag is you can't hear what it sounds like so I asked the girl could I bring it back if I wasn't happy with it, and she said no because she couldn't resell it, so it seems it's a 'blind' buy. I asked about connections for aux input from my pc, and she said if it had, it would be on the box, but she couldn't let me look at the back of one. She said it was more for people with iPods, like I'm over 60 so I couldn't possibly have one (I have) or know what she was talking about. I said I'd read it had a piece of wire for FM aerial and I have a good aerial on the roof and would prefer to use that if at all possible, and she replied that I wouldn't need that as we had now gone digital, the analogue has been switched off. I pointed out that it was TV not radio that had lost analogue, and she said, "Are you sure?, so I said my car radio was coping amazingly well without an analogue signal if that was the case, and it wasn't even a DAB radio. She suddenly had a stir of the brain cells and realised she was wrong. She then proceeded to tell me that it was digital and things had improved therefore I wouldn't need my roof aerial, it would be better without it. I just smiled, she was half right. Not very helpful though. It annoys me when store staff pretend they know what they're talking about, but really haven't got a clue. The picture on the box shows an iPod standing up in the slot, but it says it has an adapter for iPod Touch (what sort of adapter? Does that mean it's connected by a cable?) Does it sound good? Of course what is good to one person isn't necessarily good to another. I saw a similar model at £99.99 on the shelf and it appeared to have three phono connections on the back, one of which I thought said video out !!! Is that right?0 -
Like 90% of modern dabs this Hi-fi has a simple wire aerial for dab and FM. Never use FM and I get all the dab channels with the aerial.
Hi-fi comes with a number of plastic moonts for different Ipod models but as I don't have one I don't use it....YET!
Has phono line in ports but no port for an external aerial. Sound is good and bass-y for 40w of power. My local store has a display model on the shelf and it's better than the smaller hi-fi listed at £99 (Grandad has one of those that I got in the pre-xmas sale at £49.99)
Try looking in comet/currys for a hitachi dab which is exactly the same hi-fi @ £149.99
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/453102/HITACHI-AXM898U
IF you did buy one just take it back if you don't like it and say the wire aerial doesn't work properly (reception cuts out if wire is touched)
Now selling at around £89.99 I think0 -
I bought the Hitachi unit from comet and ended up swapping for a more expensive Sony unit in the end as the in-built string aerial is no good unless you are in a strong FM/DAB area. Shame as the features on this product are very good and the Sainsbury product seems to be the same, almost like a OEM unit with different branding,0
