My bed and Argos!

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has any advice/help/hints to offer me!
In August 08 we bought a Silentnight Orthopedic Cushion Top King Size bed from Argos. We paid £430 for it and it was on half price on sale so originally £860ish.
Fast forward to February 2009! The mattress is awful, it creaks, i can feel the springs and its giving me a bad back. It's not giving any support anymore and I'm not happy  and intend to call Argos tomorrow to see if they can replace it or refund me. (ideally refund it so I can buy elsewhere.)
So, how to i approach asking them to sort this out? I'm not good when it comes to things likes this but it was expensive and its only 6 months since we bought it! Surely they should last longer than that?
Also whats the best number to call to get this sorted?
Has anyone had a similar problem? How did it get resolved?
Thanks in advance,
LJB.

Argos Direct will probably send an engineer out to determine if it is a manufacturing fault with the item - the following will only happen if it is a manufacturing fault and unrepairable:
(1) You can have a replacement of the same item at no extra cost.
(2) You can opt to take a refund in gift vouchers if you would prefer to choose another matress
After 8 months of use I don't think you're likely to get a refund - you can always ask but don't hold high hopes.
Hope this helps![DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

You won't get a refund after 6 months, but you might be able to get a replacement out of them, don't hold your breath though. If you get no joy then you could seek some free advice from the CAB about it.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

hello, i hope you get your refund ok as this is terrible. i myself suffer from back and hip problems (arthritus) and for the last 3 years have had a fee posture feel mattress which is like a memory foam and believe its FAR better than sprung and no one could get me to go back to sprung mattress.
we brought our bed from heli beds (based in kent) and for mattress and divan we paid around 500 but its the best 500 ive ever spent and to this day its still in very good condition.
hth and good luckhave now given up smoking since feb 13th 2014 loving the money I'm saving0 -
I too bought a Silentnight mattress from Argos I called them 6mths after ordering and told them about the issues with it (same as you) and I got a replacement. The second mattress was the same after 4mths so I called them and got a full refund on the mattress

Thanks everyone, I called them and they said i can pick out a replacement. Ive decided to replace the whole divan set and i have paid more to get a more expensive set(not silentnight). Hopefully this will last longer than the silentnight! If not I shall be calling them again and will demand a refund! New bed arrives on Monday!0

Please tell me it wasn't from the Silentnight group (Silentnight, Rest Assured, Layzee, Sealy, or The Pocket Sprung Bed Company)?0 -
I had a Slientnight memory foam mattress which I paid over £500 for thinking it would be a good buy with having fibromyalgia. After approx 12 months if was stuffed. The springs were poking through and the foam was no longer supportive. I did phone trading standards and the lady I spoke to said her and her husband had had 3 of these mattresses and each one had gone the same. She also said the 5 year guarantee was basically worthless. I didn't pursue it I binned it and bought a turn-able mattress after reading on a website that you pay double for a no turn-able mattress which they only have to manufacture one side of not both as in one you turn. It stated that it costs them less to produce a no turn able mattress than one you can turn.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
