Credit Report Problem

Hi,

I've just checked my credit rating and I've got 1 payment that I paid late that has been recorded.

I set a direct debit with this company a few days later, I didn't realize this took about 14 days.

So basically I missed my payment. I was sent a reminder and had a phone call from then and paid up.

However I still think it is unfair to record this.

According to the section on credit reports on this website, I can write to this agency and ask them to change this information.

My questions, what do I write in this letter? Is there a template available? Has anyone had this resolved before?

Thank You!

Depends - it IS entirely fair unfortunately so all you can do is grovel.
I had a late payment with MBNA and because I not only phoned them before it happened (I was moving banks and saw my old bank recalled the payment - useless so and so's!) I even called to tell the CC company and I made a manual payment as soon as I noticed! I even set up the DD to the new account WAY before the next DD was due (like a month!) but they then failed to take the second one - cue angry call as I had ASKED them if the next payment would be taken care off and was told yes...
They tried to argue it with me and in the end I told them I wanted the full copy of my last call to them as I KNEW I'd asked if it would be ok for the next payment - only then did they back down.
As your scenario is very different then I don't think you have much ground for arguing with them unfortunately.
The good news is it's only ONE missed payment. You could either beg them or just let it slide - it won't crash your credit worthyness for life - and after 6 months of "good behaviour" you'll probably be as attractive to a lender as you were before :)
