Ebay account limited, what now?

Hi,
I have bought and sold a number of watches recently on ebay (sold three in the last month)
I have had my account limited by paypal stating that I can't list any more of these items (I presume they mean just the watches?) for 30 days.
What I don't understand is that the message to me states, ''If your selling history of these items has been consistently positive, we might be able to raise your limit'
My selling history of all my items including these watches is 100% positive. I have emailed ebay and pointed this out, together with the fact that I am ebay and paypal verified, have a verified address and a linked and verified bank account.
Does anyone know whether they usually respond positively when you point things out like that - ie am I likely to get the limit lifted, and if so how long do they usually take to respond and do this?
Thanks, Olias

Are these watches a good brand?
There are limits to how many designer/branded items new (ish) sellers can list. Once you reach that limit, you have to wait 30 days to list another 'name'
If you are a registered business (which you probably should be if you are selling multiple watches) then you can attempt to get ebay to raise your limits
sleepless2012*1 A DAY on Ebay*Jan 31/31PLUS 24 EXTRA= 55
Feb 29/29 PLUS 21 EXTRA = 50March 11/31 PLUS 2 EXTRA = 13 £365 in 366 days = 91/3660 -
Forgot to mention that revisions will also count towards your limit
You can sell other items non named brands do this to increase your limits, get some good seller feedback and dsr's built up and your limits will be increased quicker

Thanks for your reply,
They are 'high end' watches, Rolex, Omega etc (usually between £100-£600), however I am not a business, just a watch enthusiast and do this as a hobby - I like to change my watches regularly (wife loves me for it! ) There are only the odd one which I pick up cheep and try and sell at profit which I would think hardly constitutes a business - I do lose money on some of them!
After the 30 days, will I be able to list several again before having a further 30 day limit? or as soon as I list one will I get another 30 day limit, and will this carry on in this pattern until ebay are happy I'm legit (don't know why they aren't anyway as I have 100% feedback and all watches are listed with full serial numbers which are all visible on photos)
If I can sell 3/4/5/ a month then I'll be happy enough
Thanks again, Olias0 -
if you buy with the intention to sell for a profit then you need to register with ebay as a business seller and inform hmrc0

PayPal is a separate company from eBay and can't stop you listing on eBay; however they can limit you accepting payments for brand-name watches. These limits are known as velocity limits and are designed to prevent sellers flooding the market with Far-eastern counterfeit watches, then vanishng when the complaints start flooding in.
The way to get around PayPal limits is normally to list items as "for pickup only" so you can accept cash, bank transfers/deposits or other suitable payments. Other creative ways are to include an "adult" item so the listing can't accept Paypal. If you have a friend or relative (at a different address) with an eBay account ask them to list it on your behalf. There are loads of ways to bypass PayPal limits on your account... usually by using a completely different account that is not connected to the limited account i.e. no PayPal transfers between connected accounts.
Hope this helps :-)"Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0 -
I had the same message and if I remember correctly the message was from EBay not Paypal. However I contacted Ebay and pointed to my feedback record and I was sent a reply stating the limitation had been removed.0

Hi, thanks for the advice - yes my mistake, the message was from ebay - not paypal.
I do have seperate accounts for buting and selling and also my wife has an account, so yes, I guess I'll just sell from another account until the 30 days are up and so on.
I do have all the usual hold on money in my paypal account, but am not too worried about that, as I get next to no interest in my savings account, so if paypal want to hold onto my cash for 21 days then so be it - as long as I get it after that!
Thanks again

I've tried that already, and unfortunately they have just sent back there usual robotic reply that the limit will stay for 30 days - I guess the fact that I have 100% feedback means and am fully verified in all ways they request means that I must be dodgy!
Do you know whether it's worth trying again to get the limit lifted (I'm thinking if another member of their staff looks at my request they may take a different approach?
Thanks again, Olias0 -
If they've placed a limit on your sales I wouldn't go selling on another account as if they work out the link, you could end up getting suspended. I'd just email them and explain & ask them to remove the limits.
Also regards tax, I'd watch out - if you're selling repeatedly the same type of items you may get caught by the tax man & it'll be much more effort explaining yourself then than coughing up nowThough morally I don't care what you do.
