7 weeks and counting! can't wait, went on to google earth to check the area out, might not be everybodys cup of tea though. Anything is better than Marmaris - Blackpool with sunshine! :rotfl:

which hotel did you stay in?

getting a cheap deal for Paloma Club Sultan but it does not get good reviews on trip adviser.

    any suggestions welcome please!

I stayed at the 5* Concorde Hotel, but I got a REALLY good deal because it was three weeks in feb and very last minute (about £250 a week including flights transfers food drink, everything) - normally it would be way out of my budget.

One thing to be aware of is that coast is geared up more for Germans and other europeans, so they tend to price things in Euros. With the exchange rate being what it is, this can make things outside the hotel quite expensive. So you need to be firm and make it clear that you are English and cannot afford euro prices - they know the score and many traders will drop the price immediately. Also if you wander around the back streets in Antalya, where the locals shop, away from the main tourist drag, you will find many things are a fraction of the price

Update - I have just picked up a cheap flight and am heading back to Antalya after Easter, though this time I will be staying in Antalya city. :j

We were there 2 years ago and it was pretty much hotel based, not too much in the area. The hotels were great but it is not the best area of Turkey to visit. I would go back though as you can get to other areas easily.

thanks, i was suprised nothing in trip adviser..and nothing within last 6mths around. Hotel website http://www.lyrahotel.com looks impressive but i like to see a few reviews to make my mind up. Its either this one or pay extra £30 per head for the monachus park.

worth a note, once you get into May, the Fethiye region of Turkey is beautiful, you can jump on a dolmus (local bus) and be in the villages and mountains in minutes. It is nothing like nearby Marmaris - but there are a lot more English people there, so English is freely spoken and most local shops will accept sterling.

There are a better mix of hotels there - Lara Beach and that coast tends to be mainly the large all-inclusive hotels, whereas Fethiye/Ovacik/Olu Deniz area has a mix of B&B's, self catering, and hotels including some all-inc. This means there is a better variety of restaurants and bars around, to cater for tourists who are not all-inc.

Also it is easier to pick up cheap flights into Dalaman.

In fact, I'd be going there myself, if it wasn't for a certain person who is in Antalya!!

take your German phrase book i fyou going to or near Side. Just got back and place is full of Germans, few of the Turkish people could speak English and they really preferred germans speaking guests. There were only 4 Birtish families in our hotel of about 400 guests! Speaking to other Brits when travelling around they said their hotels were mainly full of Germans. Nice place but in my opinion its an expensive place.
