Where to get quote for Opel Astra

We're struggling to find comparison sites that will give us a quote for our UK spec Opel Astra. It's identical to a Vauxhall Astra but is badged as an Opel.

Is there by any chance a MSE user who has an Opel Astra who can point us in the direction of a reasonable place to get a quote?

  • Hi Slinky, comparison sites are ok for anything completely 'standard', try a broker, such as Adrian Flux, they do all sorts so I've read on here, modified, imports etc. Good luck.

Thanks cocobean. I'd tried Go Compare (no luck at all) and Moneysupermarket (could get a quote if I called it a Vauxhall Astra) and was giving up hope. Have bunged in details to see what Adrian Flux came up with so am waiting for them to contact me.

Interesting enough though, having almost given up hope for using the comparison sites, our friends at Compare the Meerkat actually had Opel and Astra listed as a combination, I was able to scroll down and find the exact model and have got quotes coming up cheaper with the same insurers as Moneysupermarket than when I'd described it as a Vauxhall Astra.

So if you've got a bit of a non-standard vehicle, try Comparethemarket, it seems to be a lot more flexible than some of the others.

Herts Insurance Company are a sister company of Adrian Flux and usually have slightly cheaper rates.

I would say they are 99% more likely to have a cheaper quote than anything from comparethemeerkat.com too.
  • A m8 with an Opel Zafira doesnt have any problems. If its a UK spec, tick the parallel import rather than a grey import (just incase this is the problem). His came from a policeman that was on duty at the Lockerbie bombers trial then brought home with him.

On the first 2 sites I wasn't given an option to tell them about whether it was parrallel or grey, and if I ticked Opel, I only got 2 models come up (might have been Zafira's can't remember) certainly no Astras.

We bought ours new in 2003 when it was cheaper to buy through Holland because of the exchange rate, but I've taken over driving it from my husband so wanted to move away from the hideous More Than whose Indian call centres drove me nuts when I reported a no-claim information only incident to them.

I think I'm sorted now, can't see anything being much cheaper than £143 fully comp with Sheila's Wheels or esure.

    Adrian Flux quoted £261.25.
