Oil for Bosch SDS hammer Drill

Hello, I've been using my SDS drill (alot) (one of the best tools I've bought), Been knocking off black mortar and chasing out for hiding the electrics, as such the drill needs a clean and an oil, I'm wondering what oil/grease would be the right one to use?

I think that WD40 is to light and would be detremental? I'm tending to think that the same would be true for 3 in 1 oil or bicycle oil?

any suggestions/recommendations?

thanks,

  • Which part of the drill do you want to oil?
If it is just on the SDS chuck then liberally spray WD40 to flush out the dust then wipe with kitchen towel and put on a bit of 3 in 1 oil to lubricate.

Hubs has several of the Pro Bosch SDS drills and says that you shouldn't oil them but if you must, put the graphite paste on the bit before you put it in the chuck. Toolshop will sell it.

Sorry, but barf, I am sooooo not interested in tools in anyway, but couldn't help but answer. I know far too much about tools for a bird:cool:

WD40 is not a lubricant, although most people seem to think that it is. It evaporates very quickly after use. It is essentially a water repellent.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Hello, thanks for the replies - its got a quick release chuck system where I can swap between an SDS chuck and a normal chuck.

This QR area needs lubrication. Also, I've bought an Armeg Backbox cutter, which states to ensure that you keep the SDS chuck lubricated.

The chuck itself - spray and clean with wd40, then just apply some 3 in 1.
To keep the thing working correctly, smear the end of the sds drill bit (that goes into the chuck) with normal grease. This will keep the internals of the sds chuck working ok.
I use these every day - never fails.......;)
