Changing a Return flight ( penalties ??)

Hi There
I am currently on Holiday in the states and having a good time but ended up getting an extra day off work .woohoo.
My question is , can anyone give advice or even tell me from experience what i can expect with regards to penalties for changing my flight details and staying an extra day.
I dont think its one of those "Non - Transferable , Non- Refundable " tickets , it was booked on expedia and its a two leg journey, the first leg with American Airlines in the states and then second leg is with Virgin Atlantic to the UK .
Is it easier to change it with Expedia or to go to the Airlines direct and change it with them, its only the next day and there is an Exact itinerary the next day so i cant see it being a huge problem but maybe someone else can give me a clearer idea of the best / cheapest way to do it .
Cheers

I changed my return flight with Virgin Atlantic about a year ago, and believe it cost about 70 pounds. I also had to contact the airline directly.'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. '

You have to contact the airline directly. Depending on the exact booking class you were in, the cost of your extra day could be anything between nothing and having to buy a completely new ticket: you can't assume anything.0

You need to see what your ticket conditions say, it will spell out exactly if you can change your date and if you can how much it will cost."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
