I like westermilll farm on exmoor (north devon) and camping caradon near polperro (cornwall).
First is a simple site - no hook ups, just camping and basic facilities plus a small shop. Latter has a small bar/club room that does food and hook ups but is still a small friendly site. Both have websites.0 -
I've camped all over the UK for many years, and I select every campsite from:
www.ukcampsite.co.uk
They're a well trusted and reputable site, used by loads of people on these forums. I've never yet had a problem with any of the campsites I've stayed on by following the forums / recommendations of ukcampsite.
I'm hoping to go to Devon in the summer as well ... so might see you there!0 -
We have always gone to Wear Farm between Newton Abbot and Teignmouth. You can pitch by the estuary and have bonfires, launch dingys etc. Small shop, clean toilets and showers in two blocks including two baths! (slightly old fashioned but serve their purpose] washing up facilities, laundry. Small playground. Fish and chip van calls once a week. Taxi driver lives on site. On the main road at top of site are bus stops [either direction] which is handy if you want a drink/meal in Teignmouth - last bus back was 11-30pm - remember to take a small torch! Plenty of rabbits. Nearby Shaldon has a Victorian market once a week [people in costume] Dawlish v. pretty with black swans and ducks, best ice cream in Gays! Dartmoor nearby, also Trago Mills [large shopping area, v. reasonable] and rides for all ages, plus a small animal park [free]0

Prices can vary as some charge for dogs and cars whereas others don't. If it is school summer holidays we pay - family of four no dog one car no hook up - about £15-20 a night. We paid last year £14 on one site but that is rare. Charges are much higher on sites with greater facilities.
Outside of peak season rates can be very cheap. Only way to really work it out is to look at sites you are interested in and price up for your particular circumstances.
I also agree ukcampsite is a good website.0 -
Mother ivys bay by padstow if you want to avoid chavs but pricey OR damage barton by woolacombe are good.0
