Thanks for that Sue.
The house is a 3 bed semi, its a new build though so I assume insulation is covered by some sort of regulations, double glazing, gas central heating (i think) Dad is quite capable of insulating the loft (he's just re-done the one at home) if this is necessary, he's something of a perfectionist when it comes to providing for his family (hence the new car) so I am in no doubt that when we do come to an agreement about moving in that he will ensure it is all set up to the best it can be.
Going to have a look on freecycle now, have seen it mentioned on the boards before during my lurking days but never actually got round to looking.
I understand how privaleged I am to have such a supportive family around me (although they dont know about the credit card or overdraft debt) but I need to pull my socks up and start to stand on my own two feet a bit more now, and show them how much I appreciate all they have done for me.

That's good; at least it is not an oldun with all the draughts, damp and insulation problems that could come with that - so that is a positive for you for keeping down your bills. Also have you thought of taking in a lodger, a friend maybe, who could share the bills with you? Just a thought!
It does make alot of difference having a supportive family and it is really great that you recognise this and appreciate them also. Good luck and keep posting. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Morning all.
Sue: I had thought about having a friend live me, and I have a few that would, but in all honesty after spending so long living with people (including 4 years of uni in noisy messy student houses) I'm quite excited about the prospect of my own space invaded by no one unless they're invited.
This mornings plans are...- to do some more number crunching re: the house and getting debt free
- make some pastry
- write a list of birthday presents I need to buy over the coming months
- do some council tax research re: the house (very impressed that I found the details in the first pile of papers I picked up)
- not leave the house, so NSD number 3 is a possibility :j

Just popped in for a bit of a rant, get it off my chest.
I just broke the news to my mum (allbeit over text) about my plans to work out how to afford to move out, and my plans for my teacher training. Her response "I cant afford to move out and teaching is hard and i cant do it this year anyway" Don't you just love the support
I'm so mad...I'm 23 years old (almost 24) and if I get accepted onto the PGCE next year I'll be 25 by the time I start it. Now I know there's alot of parents on here that might be able to give me some inside information on what exactly is going on in my mothers head. Maybe I'm missing something somewhere, but she currently cant seem to let me live my own life and do what I want to do.
Anyone care to enlighten me??

It does but I'm too late for applications in my area, most of the interviews are this week so I'm told.
Need to get some more classroom time under my belt too so I intend to do that then apply to start the course in September 2010.

Lizzie, with a 15 and 10 year old in the house I cannot wait until they are old enough to start living their lives independently, however, having said that I might feel different when the time actually comes!!! Do you have any siblings? It might just be that you mum is finding the prospect of cutting those apron strings are little to tough to cut?
Be patient with her, explain to her (when you are face to face) that you are nearly 25 and it is about time you started standing on your own two feet. Say that you appreciate all the she and your dad have done/are doing for you and that you aren't moving far and that she will still see you on a regular basis. I think if you reassure her that you are only moving out of her home, and not out of her life, then hopefully this will help. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -
try joining in the £10 a day challenge for march. not sure if there is a thread started yet but if you can achieve it, the money from that and the £100 in your bank account (cash) can pay off the credit card.0

Funnily enough Sue I have an older sister (she's 27) and she actually owns a third of the house but has never lived there. That in itself is a story!! But she still lives at home and is a little pathetic to be honest. I blame her entirely for my mums outlook on me living my own life!!
Thanks for that tip Pebblespop, I'll have a look for it, but where the hell would I find £10 a day?? That sounds a scary prospect!!
